Holiday Photos

Just in case you forgot, we did have some good times over Christmas. I do hope your New Year is off and running in a good direction! The house seems very quiet with just the four of us again.

Kara vom Winkel

Some good friends of ours are moving, and when they were cleaning/getting ready for the movers to come, they found Lola's papers (they picked her up for us). I thought you all would be amused to know that Lola's real name is Kara vom Winkel. So now she even sounds like a princess, or at least nobility. :-p

Handyman

When installing a new Washer...it's extremely important to remember to hook it up to the drain before using it. Unless of course you enjoy coating your kitchen with soapy water.

Several towels, 2 trips to Lowe's; I don't think I'll ever do that again:P

Happy New Year! and other fiascos

My new year back at Sauk started off with me missing my first class! There I was, early as usual for my 1pm class, ready to go, but no students. After 30 minutes I looked more closely at my first day roster: my class had been changed to 11 am. Did anyone think to tell me? Nooooo. It was a mistake, but it was made back during registration, so can't be changed now. This makes my Mondays very long days, leaving at 10am and getting home at 9pm. Sigh. Feel sorry for mother!
I hope your new year gets off to a better start!

Books

I forgot how much buying textbooks sucks. $434 for used books. Ouch:( Good thing the same physics book is used for 3 semesters!

Iowa Caucus Results Are In

Senator Obama and Arkansas Governer Huckabee have won the Democratic and Republican primaries in Iowa.

This is exciting on a number of levels. A white state has voted for a black man. Two newcomers have been chosen over more dynastic contenders.
If the results from the Iowan caucus portend anything for the future, it's that Americans truly are ready for change.

It's the first primary of the year, and a lot could happen between now and the final nominations, yet I thought it was a good omen.

The Illinois primary is on the 8th; are you voting?

we're back

Well, we're finally back in Germany. We got home late yesterday morning, we had about a 3hr delay in O'Hare after boarding. Caedmon seems to be adjusting to the time change pretty well, he's actually sleeping better here than he was there, which I guess makes sense. I'm pleased to say that Germany is much warmer than IL. In the meantime I thought I'd post a few pictures.
