Favorite Children's Books

Dad has promised (or threatened?) to get himself onto this blog and post this question but I will jumpstart him by asking you the burning question: What were your favorite childhood books? I think Dad would like to compile a list for a buddy with young'uns. What would you recommend for the age 3-5 crowd and why?

Kate and the Big Snow.

Mike Mulligan and the steam shovel.

Winnie the Pooh.

Anything by Beatrix Potter, actually.

Freight Train (going...going...gone...)

The Gazelle (the story about the acacia tree; remember Mom?)

Build Me A House (maybe not the correct title but it's the one with King Lion demanding his subjects to build him a house)

The King, The Mouse, And The Cheese.
The story with the pidgeon (some sort of bird) who has no wings.

That African story where the guy kidnaps the girl and makes her sing in the drum.

Where The Wild Things Are.

The Finganani and Tree Toad (pushu pushu pushu)

Last but not least...MAKE WAY FOR DUCKLINGS!!!!!

The kids I used to read to in the toddler room at the CDC LOVED interactive books. We had one called "the Seals on the Bus" (instead of "the wheels on the bus"). They also really enjoyed one that I don't remember the exact title but was something like going on a lion hunt (I could probably recite it aloud we read it so often). But for the most part they were books which were somewhat repetative and encouraged the child to participate. Granted, most of the kids I read to were more like 2-3yrs of age.

To be honest though I don't think its the book that matters at all, but rather the person reading the book.
