Yes, this is for real! It takes about 5-8 Mentos per liter bottle of cola, and the reaction mainly consists of rapidly expanding carbon dioxide bubbles on the surface of the Mentos.
Well, what happens when you EAT mentos and drink Diet Coke???
I've never done it but I would say it's real. They left the caps on the bottles with small holes poked in them which made more pressure and therefore a more dramatic reaction.
Well, that would be different, because your stomach acids (pH close to 3.0) interfere with the reaction.
